my daughter, for when you are older

A poem about aging and daughters. ‘my daughter, for when you are older’ was included in Ann Arbor’s 2025 Poet Tree Town event–it’s a wonderful month in Ann Arbor, where the city’s shop windows and walls start talking poetry!

is it fair
that you grow up
while i grow old
trying so hard to catch up
to only find what
you are chasing
vanishes faster
with every day you are
aging
age
if we could be granted to meet in its middle
ground
would it be
as soft as my shoulder
to rest your head on
when you, too, get tired
